You’ve probably read or heard nutrition advice that goes something like this:
“Don’t eat less than three hours before bedtime.”
“Eating carbs at night will make you fat.”
“Eating anything at night will make you fat.”
But are these little nutrition nuggets of advice even true?
Nope, not so much.
Research indicates that our metabolic rates do not completely crash while we sleep, as various online nutrition “gurus” claim is the case.
And, some foods may even promote relaxation and optimal sleep. (The Lavender Oat Banana Ice Cream I shared earlier this week is a perfect example.) These foods contain sleep-promoting compounds like melatonin (and/or its precursor, tryptophan) along with l-theanine, potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
So which foods can you eat to reach your ultimate state of zen?
Do you like to have a snack before bedtime? Which foods help you relax and wind down for the night?
