I love trying new things, especially in the world of food, so I really enjoyed learning about forecasted food trends in a recent survey. Today I’m sharing five of my favorite of-the-moment food trends and talking about how you can work them into your lifestyle.
1. Healthy fats have the spotlight
Hooray for finally leaving behind the false concept that a healthy diet should be extremely low in fat. I love avocado, nuts, and seeds for their rich flavor and the long-lasting energy they provide. According to forecasted food trends, I’m not alone. A number of foods rich in healthy fats made it on the forecasted list of 2015 “superfoods.”
2. Feelin’ green
There’s been no shortage of matcha teas, lattes, and smoothies on Instagram lately, so I wasn’t too surprised to see green tea on the list of forecasted foods. Green tea has antioxidant effects and has been shown to provide drinkers a calm energy. (I wrote an entire blog post about the health benefits of green tea here.)
Try: Use matcha to make lattes, smoothies, and even baked goods and energy bars.
3. Plants rule!
The survey indicated that more and more nutritionists are recommending a Mediterranean-style plant-based diet and steering clients away from red meat. Instead, we’re recommending more beans and legumes, nuts and seeds, and seafood. Plant-based diets are beneficial for both our health and the environment, so I’m really excited about this trend!
4. The GMO debate continues
I’m fascinated by the current debate over genetically modified foods. In my opinion, research hasn’t been strong enough to conclude whether GMO’s are safe or harmful. I think it’s important to continue the discussion and also feel we consumers have a right to know whether our products contain them.
Tip: If you want to avoid GMO-containing foods, look for the “Non-GMO Project Verified” Seal.
5. It’s time to reach our health goals
Another trend I saw that I loved was that we estimate that more and more people are interested in reaching their personal health goals and reaching a healthy weight. For the best chance at reaching your wellness goal, focus on whole foods and mindful eating.
Try: If you’re having difficulty reaching your goals on your own or you’re looking for some accountability, we can work together one-on-one!
